Opportunities for generating additional revenues in the Baltic system services markets

The desynchronisationof the Russian electricitygrid at the beginning ofnext yearwill bring changes to the Baltic electricity system.System serviceswill be implemented to ensure the stability of theelectricity gridand, among other things, there will be a t Complementary reserve market products including aFRR (Automatic Frequency Restoration Reserve). After joining the European süncrown in February 2025, the situation in the mõnameõrra second käfrom[2]:

  • A common market for the procurement of reserve capacity will be established between the Baltic TSOs, where the three Baltic price areas FCR (Frequency Containment Reserve), aFRR and mFRR (Manual Frequency Restoration Reserve) capacity will be procured together.
  • Baltic system operators join the pan-European mFRR regulatory energy platform MARI. Depending on the pace at which other European countries join the platform, trading of mFRR energy across Europe will be possible.
  • Baltic system operators join the pan-European aFRR regulatory energy platform PICASSO. Depending on the pace at which other European countries join the platform, aFRR energy trading across Europe will be possible.

As of 09.10.2024, the two new Member States joined theõall Baltic regulators to the MARI platform and will be able toäAt the moment, the twoõmFRR regulation transactions in this süsteemis.
